Par7 Vodka
This isn’t a project of mine, a friend on facebook has been working on some designs for the bottle of Par7 Vodka. While at West5 with one of my favorite people (staring at a wall filled with alcohol bottles) we got to talking about what we’d do for a design for Par7 Vodka, and how we’d make it stand out from the rest.
Yes, it’s a “high-end” targeted product, but that doesn’t mean you are limited to a tall, frosted glass bottle with black and silver inks, and a script font… So in the spirit of having some fun with the theme (and not considering any sort of budget) here are a few of the things we came up with, and a couple more thoughts I’ve had along the way.
- Cover the glass on neck of the bottle, or depending on the design perhaps the entire bottle, with those dimples found on golf balls. Texture ftw!
- The “higher-end” you get with a product, the less readable your logo needs to be. You’ve got a smaller audience willing to pay your prices, and something hard to read or pronounce makes it easy for them to recognize the noobs. Everyone loves being able to show a friend something new, or chuckle silently at a stranger’s folly. — In that vein, we take further inspiration from the golf ball, a very small (but bold, and possibly vintage inspired) script font. The brand itself, only readable from very close-up, encouraging people to put their face right up in it.
- Golf as a sport is associated with tons of different patterns, there is great opportunity for modernizing one and incorporating it into the texture of the bottle, or as graphics. Added bonus, patterns are tons of fun to fool around with.
- The “par” for a hole is determined by the numbers of strokes you should require to complete the hole. A simple interpretation of this concept would have the number 7 represented as stokes, rather than simply the number 7.
- The length of the whole is a key factor in determining the par, a nice reference to this fact could be an abstract representation done with two circles (ball and hole) and a dotted line swooping and swerving to connect the two.
- Using the topper/cork we could allude to the orange flag on a golf course by using shape and color.
- Speaking of flags, the number 7 could easily be drawn to imply one.
- An additional texture that could be incorporated onto the bottle neck is the grip wraps/tape on clubs. Functional and on-theme.
Anyway, those are some initial thoughts that I figured I’d rather throw out there than have them go to waste. The chances I’ll get to design a golf themed bottled of vodka are very slim ;)
